Gosford Estate

We recently had another walk round Gosford estate, but it was a bit of a grey day, so there wasn't much colour around, and it was pretty cold.  We did remember this time however, to take some bread with us to feed the swans.  After our walk we had rather a nice latte coffee at The Bothy, which was very welcome on this cold winter's day.

As normal, I had the camera with me and took a few shots - here are what I think are the best of them:

A rolling stone gathers no moss, but a large static log does!!

Young swan - or is it still a cygnet at this stage??

Came across this structure - no idea what it is or what it was used for!

It was very muddy underfoot!

An Autumn Walk through Gosford Estate

On Sunday just past, the sun was shining and it was actually quite warm, so we decided to have a walk through Gosford Estate.  Although very muddy underfoot in some places after the recent heavy rain, it was just lovely.  The autumn colours are magnificent just now, and with virtually no wind at all, the reflections in the ponds were wonderful.  I took a few photos, and will share the best of them (in my opinion) here:

Another Walk in Gosford Estate

As it was another nice day yesterday and knowing that the daffodils would be in full bloom, we went for another walk round the ponds in Gosford Estate.  Before that though, we popped into Redhouse Market Garden for some supplies.  As I had the camera with me, I took a couple of photos of the ruins

We then headed off to the estate and it was just so peaceful, although full of birdsong and geese fighting!!  The daffodils were just glorious and there were more birds than on our last visit.  We saw geese, ducks, swans and moorhens but, the highlight was seeing a heron and a woodpecker.  I could have spent hours just wandering round and round the pond taking photos!!  Here are a few that I did take

He took off unexpectedly and almost got out of shot!!

Still hunting!

If you look very closely, there's a woodpecker hiding in the branches!!

A wee walk in Gosford Estate

As it was a lovely day on Sunday we decided to have a walk around Gosford Estate in the winter sunshine.  We got all togged up in our cold weather gear and set off - we were too hot!!  It was just lovely in the estate to see the snowdrops all blooming and the other spring bulbs all coming through to give a glorious show in the spring, although it was very wet and slippy underfoot.  The damage from the recent storms was also very evident with some huge trees having been blown down and snapped like matchsticks.

As ever, I took my camera with me so I have included a few of the better shots I took.  After our walk we popped into Gosford Bothy Farm Shop for a coffee in the cafe, plus we bought some nice fresh produce at the butcher to take home with us.  The Scotch pies were lovely and today we will try out the Stornoway black pudding - the steak pie is in the freezer for another day!!

I think this is the ice house and is either 15th or 18th Century
