Last weekend we went for a tour of The Vaults in Edinburgh, which was very interesting indeed. It was quite a short tour but very enjoyable. There is a real witches coven here as well, which is still in use and protected by gargoyles at its entrance. You are not allowed into it, but you can see through the barred windows and photography is allowed. It's very dark and damp and photos don't do it justice, but here are a few anyway. The tour ends in a local pub with whisky and shortbread!!

During the tour you are taken into one of the many caverns down here and the guide turns the lights off - it is pitch black!! This is how people lived when it was illegal to be homeless in Edinburgh, and many of the homeless at that time used to live in the vaults where it was rife with crime. Being homeless in those days could actually end up in you being hung!!
